Who's this?

Okay, you want to know the person behind the insanity.  Seriously?

You know I never have figured out this complicated skill of bio-writing in the third person.  I don’t like doing it, though I have had to do it pretty often.  Why should an indirect, passive-voiced account of oneself be perceived as more professional than a direct Hi-my-name-is-Anthony-Gonsalvez type approach? It completely mystifies me.

Words have always fascinated me.  And I have always made my living out of them. Reading stories, listening to people, finding patterns across places, looking for motifs and a-ha moments and folk tales and market feedback to weave into a cohesive tapestry.  I have lived and worked in 5 countries, travelled 20 odd. Lived and worked and visited among people who speak many different languages ranging from Hausa to Hindi to Bengali to Arabic to French and Spanish and English.  People who use idioms and words vastly different from mine, their backstories have somehow fed into a stream in me, illuminating, enriching and magical.

I write.  Every day.  That’s what I do, that’s who I am.  I have written market reports on bread and wine and paint additives and textile machinery.  I have written poetry and short fiction, in Bengali and English.  I have written travel articles and memoirs. Some of them have been published, in print and online.  Some are here on the blog.  A few have won competitions.

Four small words can sum me up really, none of them fancy.  Writer. Poet. Researcher.  Mum.  The rest is dross.

  1. Hi Nila - definitely not 'dross' my dear!!! Writer = yes, Researcher = yes, mother and wife = yes, knowledge gatherer and I'd add generous spirit wanting to help others understand the world we/you live in, spiritually and poetically ... and very good luck with all your writings .. cheers Hilary

  2. Hi, Someone came from your blog to mine. If it was you thanks. There is some attempt at poetry on the blog, look for it from the menu.

Poetry, though, is not my focus, as I use the blog to practise writing as well as post my memoirs.

In a way we are all doing that...practicing the writing and writing our stories. Good luck with writing yours!

  6. “Manjil” a word which motivates us to start our journey called life. That's what we are all looking for but the roads are different. All we need is a path and we need to keep going, as the life we know, goes on. There everything fall into the right place and we will meet ourselves
